You can basically interchange the “big apple” with the “big birthday cake” at any time due to the sheer number of things you can do on your big day! From dining to experiences and everything in between, we’ll be sharing a bunch of ideas in case you’re researching what you want to do in New York City.
See a Broadway Show
This will take some planning, but if you have the chance to get tickets for a broadway show, it’ll be awesome! Live theatre just makes everything better, especially when you’re looking for something memorable.
You probably won’t be able to find a discount or a “birthday deal”, but that doesn’t mean that it’s out of the question to pair a show with something else in the area.
Grab a Cupcake
Sprinkles Cupcakes are one of those special companies that still provide a freebie for your birthday celebration. I love the little things that come with celebrating your big day, so make sure that you add Sprinkles to your email club roster in order to get a free birthday cupcake!
Comedy Club
Okay, I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that you don’t actually tell anyone at the club that it’s your birthday. Honestly – they don’t really care. The comics don’t care, the club won’t give you anything and everyone else at the show aren’t involved in your plans…
Just go and have a great night of laughs and share it with your friends!
Hang out at a Museum
If you’re like me, your birthday is just another day. There’s really nothing special about the actual day, but it’s a great excuse to hang out with friends and do something that you don’t usually do. So why wouldn’t you want to show your nerdy side and be cultural. Learning is cool!
Be cool!
Do a Worth It Day
If you’ve seen Buzzfeed’s Worth It youtube show, you’ll know that they spend a bunch of time in NYC. Watch a few videos and put together your list of restaurants for a fun day of unique eats!
My suggestion would be a stop at Joe’s Pizza for a slice, a piece of cake at Lady M and maybe dinner at Seasoned Vegan!
Photo Day
You’re getting old! Why not take advantage of the opportunity of having family/friends around for your birthday and have them be your personal photographer and/or moving tripod?
Okay – you may not want a bunch of pics of your snazzy new pair of Vessi’s…but you can still wander around with your friends and grab interesting backdrops in neighbourhoods outside of your day-to-day life.
Go on a Haunted Tour
We 100% recommend checking out the tours of Boroughs of the Dead! Most folks think about ghost tours in October, but they are available year round and we had a blast on ours. Sure, it was a little wet outside, but you can’t control the weather…and the guide will give you a new appreciation for spots in NYC that you’ll never look at the same again!
Talk about how you really don’t celebrate birthdays. In the end, your goal is to show how awesome the people you’re with really are for being there on your special day. Have fun with it!
